Hello Marco: My name is Lidell Brooks, my church administrator and I also was intrested in attending the confrence in Copan, but we could not find a low fare. Taca is an airline that refuses to lower their fares for anything or anyone. In 2001 I contacted them concerning a trip that we were having to Roatan, we did a week of HIV/AIDS Awareness, TACA told me that they could not offer me any reduction in airfare price. We still went, via Sol Air. In the year 2007 I would like to take a group of medical staff to Roatan again, I am wondering if your organization would be intrested in helping us to get there. I will be going to Roatan during the month of August. I have prayed that Honduras would get their own airline, so that we can stop using TACA. Hoping to hear from you. Thanks for writing and for putting together a proposed TACA discount program for people who would be traveling to attend the Conference on Honduras 2006 in Copan Ruinas next October.
I have reviewed your proposal carefully. I truly appreciate the offer of a 10% discount, but I must tell you that that figure is not going to be anywhere close to being an incentive for conferees to choose to fly TACA. It certainly would not be for me. I normally fly American Airlines via Miami, and I am relatively happy with that company's service and flight schedules to Honduras. It would take a significant discount from TACA to encourage me to change my routine.
Additionally, your proposal contains numerous provisions that would have to be met in order to qualify for the 10% discount. For example, the discount would only apply to airfares over $320. It would not be valid on already-discounted airfares. It would only apply to tickets purchased directly from TACA. And it would only apply to the airfares available at the time of ticket purchase.
I am afraid that I cannot commit to this proposal because I do not feel I can convince our conferees that this would be a good deal for them. Airfares to Honduras are extremely high. The only way I will commit to recommending to our conferees that they fly TACA is if we can establish a very simple and very cheap discount program.
What I am really interested in is to have TACA as a contributing supporter of the Conference on Honduras... essentially a partner. At the moment, we are averaging about 250 people per year at our event. I intend to grow this number to about 400.
Establishing a simple, cheap, efficient, consistent airfare discount program with an airline(s) will go a long way to helping us attain this goal.
What I am looking for from TACA and from other airlines such as American and Continental is a flat fixed airfare for anyone registered to attend the Conference on Honduras each year. That airfare needs to be set at a standard rate for each departure location. I will be glad to establish a dialogue with you on what that standard needs to be in order for me to recommend TACA to our conferees.
Personally, I can tell you that the only way I would switch from American to TACA would be if I could obtain a flat fixed airfare of no more than $400 roundtrip -- Washington, DC/Honduras. I would like to ensure a flat fixed rate of no more than $200 roundtrip for flights out of Miami, Dallas, and Houston.
I think that a reasonable pre-condition to a flat fixed discounted airfare would be that the ticket(s) be purchased at least one month in advance of the travel date. If the airfare is flat fixed, then I certainly do not see a problem obliging people to purchase directly from TACA.
Ultimately, any discount program we establish with TACA for the conference should be expanded to include any "social tourist" who travels to Honduras throughout the year to perform a volunteer social service. There are more than 5,000 people within the projecthonduras.com network. We estimate that there are tens of thousands of people who travel annually to Honduras as part of volunteer mission teams, as well as groups involved in research and academic exchange programs.
projecthonduras.com is trying to grow this sector of Honduras' tourism market. But we can only do it if airline ticket prices drop by half and remain stable throughout the year. People want to visit Honduras to contribute their time, energy, talents, and expertise for the development of the country. Airline ticket prices -- as expensive as they are -- are an impediment to these type of travelers.
I'd love to do business with you and welcome TACA as a partner on the Conference on Honduras and a broader Social Tourism Program. Let me know.
Kind regards, Marco projecthonduras.com

Estimado Marco,
Atentamente,
