Hi. To be honest, I'm not sure that I would take my dog for just one month. Air travel can be stressful for animals. It would depend how long the flight was and how many connections. Also, it would depend on the character of your puppy. Are you intending to put the animal in cargo? i.e, is he bigger than 20 lbs or so? On the paperwork side, you need for sure a certificate of health from your vet which would include whether or not your puppy has a rabies vaccination. This is for the airline and for the entry. I would get two copies for sure. I got one of mine notarized but I'm not sure this is a requirement for the airlines. When I got here, despite having sent my certificate to the honduran embassy in Ottawa for "authentication" at 85 dollars US, I still had to have a vet meet me at the airport to do more paperwork (certificate of importation). This cost me 50 dollars. It was surprisingly quick and if you make the arrangements beforehand for the vet to meet the flight, your dog will pass customs quickly. I would not bother with getting the certificate authenticated in Ottawa as that seemed to be a HUGE waste of money and I intend to request my money back. If you are travelling via the states, be prepared to go through a few hoops there with customs if you are overnighting and want your dog out of hock. If you can do it in one day that's better and the airline will just move your dog from one flight to another and they will take care of the paperwork. Oh, and if you are arriving in Tegucigalpa you need to arrive during the daytime as that's when the customs people can deal with your dog. Finally, if using continental, they are not transporting animals from November 15th to sometime in January. You may have to try another airline and they may or may not so call ahead. I cannot speak to bringing the dog back into Canada but I suspect it might just require the certificate of health and rabies shot. You should call the CRA. Let me know if you have other questions.
