Delta is going to start flying to San Pedro Sula directly from Atlanta.
This is suppose to take place next spring. If this happens it will be huge
for anyone that flies to Honduras and lives near a Delta hub. We currently
use Continental but are forced to spend a night in Houston to get to
Honduras from SLC. I am able to use Delta miles most of the time.
Sometimes the fares are less than 500 and sometimes over $1000. The Delta
flight from Atlanta should help a ton. Both airports have their pros and
cons but we prefer San Pedro Sula when we are going to La Ceiba and Teguc
when we are going to Comayagua. Certainly the experience of flying into
Teguc is one that everyone should enjoy. It is on top of a mountain and
when you arrive it can be an eery feeling. The runway seems short too. The
last time we flew out we had to stop in San Pedro to gas up completely.
Sometimes they have to take off with out filling up because of the wind
direction. They then stop in San Pedro Sula and top off the tanks.
Thanks for everyone that posts. There is much good that needs to be done
for our friends in Honduras.

We would really like to see more airlines fly into TGU - Tegucigalpa,
especially as the new airport terminal and control tower is finally being
built.
Airlines that should already be flying in here are DELTA, US AIR, and
UNITED. All three airlines fly into other Central American capitals, but
not into Tegucigalpa or any other airport in Honduras.
Tegucigalpa is a good airport for groups heading not just to the capital
itself - but to central centers such as Comayagua, Siguatepeque and La
Esperanza, as well as Danli (to the east) and Choluteca (to the south).
We have seen such positive changes with the entry of COPA Airlines into
Honduras - exclusively to Tegucigalpa. A fantastic airline! They have
modern daily 737-700 flights to Costa Rica and Panama from Tegucigalpa,
with connections to most South American and US cities. It is excellent
competition for Taca.
