Subject: [travel-to-honduras] Conference on Honduras 2005 - update

    Good afternoon everyone...

I am currently in Copan Ruinas preparing for the start
of the sixth annual Conference on Honduras tomorrow
morning. We are expecting about 240 people
    representing about 100 organizations, churches,
companies, universities, and agencies. It is entirely
possible we will have more show up at the last minute.
During the last two days, we have been receiving
dozens of phone calls and e-mails from people who have
only recently learned of the conference and would like
know if they can still register to attend.

Conferees began arriving in town yesterday. I ran
into several of them on the streets of Copan and at
Twisted Tanya´s restaurant. I am starting to see much
more activity in town today, so I assume it is due to
    conferees continuing to flow in.

The Copan-based team led by Sandra Guerra of Casa de
Todo has done a tremendous job of preparing for the
event. All has gone smoothly, and the spirit in town
is extemely relaxed, positive, and enthusiastic.
Nothing like putting on a major event and having
everybody involved be on the same page.

We will be in the Municipal Conference Center this
afternoon and this evening setting up tables and
chairs and fine tuning how everything will work
tomorrow morning. The doors will open at 7 am for
check in and distribution of nametags and packets.

My thanks to Special Missions Foundation for its
sponsorship of the event and all the contributing
supporters, including Honduras This Week, Casa de
Todo, the Municipality of Copan Ruinas, Maya Temple
Tours, Hotel Marina Copan, the Institute of Tourism,
and Macaw Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve.

I am also extremely grateful to Flavia Cueva for
organizing and hosting the reception (Thursday
    evening) at Hacienda San Lucas.

It has been a team effort. I am happy to be back in
Honduras and see all the people who volunteer their
time, energy, expertise and talents to help empower
the people of Honduras through education, healthcare
    and community building projects.

    Thanks,
    Marco
