Mario,
If you look at the program for the conference at http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference/program-conference2005.htm, go to Saturday, October 22. Notice the "Panel on Social Tourism". I will be the first speaker, followed by Vicente Murphy, then Luis Cruz. I'd like you to be the fourth speaker, so you can talk about Honduras This Week and how social tourists should try and use the newspaper more for staying informed about Honduras throughout the year.
Social tourists should also be communicating with each other more via HTW by regularly submitting stories about their work, adventures, insights related to Honduras. They should track the work of mission groups on HTW through these accounts, as well as through my Social Tourism column.
HTW should also be used by Honduras' tourism industry more to advertise their unique services and discounted rates to social tourists.
Look also at http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference/conference2005/socialtourismbriefings2005.htm
I would also recommend that you or your son provide a briefing regarding the video equipment rental and tour related services you can provide social tourists. Remember our discussion about creating a one-stop place where social tourists can rent the equipment they need, so they don't always have to haul stuff with them to Honduras? This is a valuable service, but the concept needs to be refined. Use the social tourism segment of the conference to begin the refining process.
Highlight your discount prices for social tourists, etc. You could give two five-minute briefings. One briefing could be under the Briefings by Service Providers session. The other could be under the Briefings by Site Seeing Providers session.
Let me know if you have any questions.
I think HTW should really use the conference to promote itself to the conferees and come up with creative ways to re-make HTW into a publication that serves social tourists. HTW has a potentially very large audience within the social tourism segment, but people need to clearly understand how the publication will meet their needs.
Best, Marco
