There is a chance one can be car-jacked or robbed anywhere in the world. My father's best friend was beaten to death by teenagers in a parking garage in Denver at 11:00 PM at night after working late---for his new Jaguar. Obviously, understand your map and don't stop to ask directions as if you are lost; stick to the main road from SPS that takes you easily into La Ceiba; and don't stop at any road side stand---not that they are dangerous in themselves, but just my advice for an abundance of caution. There is a nice place to stop for gas and great cafeteria food near Tela. It would be on the right side of the road from SPS to LCE in a large Texaco gas station complex---about one hour from SPS. I have driven from SPS to La Ceiba and back twenty times in the last two years and never even a hint of problems. I have Christian missionary friends that bus it back and forth all the time and laugh and visit with locals the entire way. My family are scared that they will get car-jack or robbed from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba. I rented a van at the airport in San Pedro Sula...and plan to drive to La Ceiba. We arrive at noon.
