Subject: [travel-to-honduras] What can residency do for me part dos

I'll try to answer some of the questions that have come up since my
    original post.
I got the residency sticker in my passport by making an appointment
at the consulate in DC and going and asking for it. The consulate is
a little hole in the wall and doesn't even have a sign on the door.
I was told to take original birth certificate with a special
authorization seal from my state of birth which cost about $20, a
physical form, a copy of my police record, as well as my passport,
and I also had a letter from the NGO I will be working for explaining
what I will be doing. When I got there they had me fill out a short
form, which basically consisted of name, address, where I'm going in
Honduras, how long I want to go for and why. The "why" was very
vague I think I wrote "work for NGO". They took the application and
told me to come back in 2 hours. I came back, they took my thumb
print, asked me to sign a paper saying I was never a member of the
communist party, and another one saying I would abide by the laws of
Honduras (those cost $50 each) After that I paid the visa fee which I
think was $175, and they gave me the visa along with some other form
which they typed up and put some kind of official looking seal on
which had all my infomation on it. They never once asked for any of
the papers I had brought with me. From what I understand there is
still something I have to do when I get in country but the NGO I will
work for said they have a lawyer that helps with that. I am leaving
for Honduras next week so I can post later what that process is.
I had ask about eventual citizenship. I don't plan one giving up US
for Honduran. Although as I understand it one can have both. I
think I would only give up US for EU.
My wife and I are not planning on adopting but it is good to know it
    would be easier with residency.
Im a little unclear if it is worth having a Honduran bank account.
What are the pros and cons of that?
Thanks for any advice. If this would be more appropriate for another
    group let me know.
