Jeannette and Charles still are the owners of the Hotel Canadien and apparently are working on an 18 room expansion to the east because their place is so beautiful and popular. Contact them at 011 504 440-2099. Reservations often are needed in advance because the medical missionary groups that help along the north coast have it booked a lot of the time. That entire area is "developing" into a nice, tiny community with beautiful homes along the beach. At the entrance off the main highway is 42 acre Mango Tree Villas (www.MangoTreeVillas) which is being formed into a gated community consisting of 1/2 acre homes scattered throughout parks and with 2,000 feet of clear river frontage, just 2 minutes from the beach--i.e. Helens and Hotel Canadien. The artist's house is still there on the beach. The new, five star hotel is within La Ceiba itself. The old, run down in-town beach area is being completely remodeled and this incredible hotel is the heart of it all. With prices on Roatan at $250,000 for 1/2 acre on the beach, more and more expat types and others are seeking the white sand beaches east of La Ceiba where they can purchase a full acre under $95,000 or an ocean view parcel of 10 acres for $79,000 (www.VivaCentralAmerica.com). Also, houses here in Ceiba can be constructed for $35-$40 psf. PS, the Barcelo now is the Palma Royal and is a wonderful complex including over 100 vacation homes plus the hotel itself. The water park is adjacent to this property. Ceiba attractions are the incredible kayaking and rafting clear mountain rivers, cloud forests, Cuero y Salado refuge (land time forgot) lagoons over many sq. miles for kayaking and viewing monkeys and manatees in their natural environment, great shops and medical care in the city, and miles and miles of pristine white sand beaches.

To: esponja7774.....com.... or anyone with this information. Thanks for replying! The hotel right next to Helene's Bed & Bath/Restraurant (with cottages across the road) is Hotel Canadian which is a 3 story building with 22 or 23 units on 1st & 2nd floors & restraurant on top floor, with pool facing the beach. Unless something has changed is is owned by a "retired" couple from Canada, Jeanette & Charles. That's where we stay when we go to Honduras/LaCebia. Are they still the owners? The white concrete 3-story "house" you pass on the left sitting on the beach before you get to Helene's & Hotel Canadian (on the beach side of the path) we were told is owned by an artist, who has been building that house since before we started going there....1999. The last time we were there we "toured" around the outside of this house. In Dec. 1999 the only other dwelling up that deadend path/road on the beach was a summer house owned by someone from Honduras. Is the 5-star hotel you're speaking of up that path/road? If yes, where exactly is it being built? Before you get to Helene's & Hotel Canadian or afterwards? And if afterwards, how far? Or, are you talking about going down the main highway about 5-10 miles east, away from Cebia, there's another road to the left which had a Hotel with 2-3 buildings for guests, but I've read that was bought out by a hotel company from Spain and they have been remodeling it and renamed it Hotel Barcellonia and it was to be all inclusive. I haven't read anything about it in a long time. Is this the 5-star hotel? If yes or no, how is it doing? Or, is the 5-star hotel up the Sambo Creek dirt road which is several miles before you get to the Hotel Canadian dirt path? When we were there there was one restraurant looking building which was open and another "restraurant" in a house. Both were on the beach. We ate at the house restraurant and it was wonderful. We were the only guests at that time....winter. I'm asking all these questions because we plan to return there this December to stay a few weeks and wonder if we need to try to get in touch with Jeanette & Charles for a reservation. Heretofore, we've just showed up & because it was your winter time, we've had no problem getting a room. Does anyone know if they have e-mail or a PO Box in Ceiba? When we were before they only had a cell phone, which we did not get that number. Any information would be appriciated. Thanks. Faye in North Carolina sand1dolla.....com
