I heard, while being in Roatan, that Larry MacGloughlin (Spelling) is the Customs Inspector; he is part owner of the Half Moon Bay Cabins Resort. My understanding is that a vehicle cannot be more than five (5) years old to be able to be imported into Honduras. I have not heard that you CANNOT bring in an older vehicle as a Tourist for thirty day stays, renewable at the end of each thirty day period and for a maximum of 6 months before you have to leave the country.

Didn't see any replies to this message and it is fairly old. Hope Carrie is still watching. To answer her question: yes, there are two shipping companys I know of that ships cars. Those are Hyde and Jacksons. I have to ask why would you want to when you can buy a very nice new vehicle on the mainland and not have to worry about getting the paperwork needed not to pay the duty. We brought a vehicle here and shiped out of Miami, but honesly it would have been better just to have bought one here. It took a long time to get the paperwork that allowed us to have it duty free based on our residency status, duty free vehicles do not come with all residencies. I've seen numerous folks put their shipped vehicles in storage or ship them back. Besides the vehicles you can buy here are ones not made for the US amarket, and there are more diesel varieties from which to select. Diesel is less expensive here than regular fuel. You need to make sure that the vehicle is not to old, as well. I saw a lovely older BMW setting at Jackson's that was going back on the boat because it was to old to be allowed in. I know you look at some of what's here and scratch you head on that one!
Here is my 2 cents worth. Linda Kay of Linda Kay's Bodyguard

a company that ships or ferries cars from Florida to Roatan. Does anyone know of such an organization?
Thanks for the help, Carrie
