Hi Scott, Read the US State Dept. consular info sheets for a large number of countries and you will feel uneasy. I have lived in Honduras for >28 years, and traveled extensively in the country. Yes, people drive crazy, but they do also in Bangkok, Guayaquil, Davao (Philippines), California and lots of other places. I've never had malaria or any other "tropical" diseases, except Hepatitis A some years ago. I've stayed a number of times in Omoa, but I've only visited Masca once. During Semana Santa there will be tourist police at most resort areas. If fishing off the shore doesn't net you anything, local fishermen will take you out for a fee. Snorkeling will likely be poor because the water is often somewhat murky, there are only small fish to see and there is no coral. You have to go to the Bay Islands for good snorkeling and diving. Have fun, Dave
Charles, Thank you for the reply. We are just a little nervous, especially after reading the US State Dept. consular information sheets. But then if you think about all the problems you can encounter in any big city anywhere in the world, it bring it all into perspective. We will be renting a house on the beach, which has been rented before and I think we will be OK. The house is a few minutes from Masca. Hopefully we will be able to snorkle off the beach and fish off the shore. I also think Semana santa will be more people and maybe a bit safer. Thjank You for the input Scott Kornberg
