Hello everyone- My name is Amy (although my spanish counter-part is Panchita - it's a long story). Anyways, I will be traveling to Honduras in November and I have some questions. I was in Honduras about three years ago, but I was only there for a week to visit Copan and I spent some time in Tela. I am going on this trip with my father who is thinking about moving to Honduras. Anyways, I think we should take advantage of public transport (we are going to spend about a week between the two bay islands) and he thinks we should rent a car. We will be flying into San Pedro and he has a contact near the mouth of Rio Plantano. Can we drive all the way to Rio Plantano? What I have found so far (but it is older information) is there is a road that goes to a town before Palacios and then you have to take about a 1/2 hour boat ride from there. He has this map that shows some road that goes along the north coast. So my main questions are: How far along the north coast can you go heading east in a vehicle? Do you need a 4x4 (I assume)? Is it worth it to rent a car? Any input would be great! Thanks Pancha
