Try www.taca.com. TACA is right cheap out of LA but damned expensive out of San Diego. I just checked on line and TACA has LAX/San Salvador/Tecug for just under $600 if you want to leave at 2AM. Also, Continental flies direct from Houston (IAH). The flight arrives at a reasonable hour (1pm or so). I do agree, it isn't cheap right now. Best of luck and have a great time.
