Hello Group,
I am sure most of you remember baby "K" the six week old baby who
only weighed 3.5lbs. We cared for her and her mother and soon
baby "K" weighed over 6lbs and was sent back home to live with her
mother.
About a week ago we noticed that her head was misshaped and looked a
little strange being swollen on one side. At this time we measured
her head at it was 15" around. 6 days later we again measured her
head and the measurement was 16.25" meaning her head had grown more
that 1" in 6 days.
She has been taken to the hospital in Roatan for evaluation. The
doctors there believe she may have spina bifida and needs a shunt to
relieve the pressure in her head. We have received the hospitals
permission to take her to Tegus to have surgery. The papers have
been signed and she is allowed to go.
The problem now is that we do not have the funds to send baby "K" to
Tegus. The cheapest way would be to send her on the ferry and take
a bus. But due to the teachers strikes and many of the roads being
closed we are not sure how long it would take or even if this is
possible. Plus the risks of sending a very sick child on this long
of a journey is very risky.
We need some assistance in having a plane ticket funded or donated
to send baby "K" and 1 other person to travel with her from Roatan
to the hospital in Tegus. If anyone has any connection with the
airlines that could possibly have a ticket donated or if anyone is
willing to donate the money for her airfare please respond to this
message. Or contact me off line at sbaggett.....net. We are
also looking for assistance for the mothers lodging and food while
she is in Tegus for her baby's surgery.
