Hi Tricia, This is the first report I have received that my product, which is very similar in content to other natural products of it's kind, actually attracts biting insects. I did receive reports that it seem to attract bees and I have addressed this in the new batch and replaced all the bottles from the previous batch. I am very interested in hearing more from you and your friends about the experience of using my product. For me to make the best possible product, I need to find out under what circumstances it is not working and I especially need to find out more about it being contrary to its intent. Repellents using essential oils as active ingredients do not function totally by aroma, as in aromatherapy. In other words, they function by coverage. Also, the products like mine that do not hold the EOs suspended in the delivery component need to be shaken before each use because EOs rise to the top of the liquid they are in . It seems that the properties by which EOs function are disturbed when chemicals found in skin care products are intermixed or applied over top of the EO. I would like very much to have more feedback on the use of my repellent with sun screens, body lotions, and perfumes. I think that the effectiveness is dependent upon rather the other product is a botanical and/or scented and which is applied last. The oil carrier version of my repellent is effective longer in that the oil holds the EO on the skin longer and it gets spread around on the skin better than the water/astringent based one. The oil is not a mineral oil which lays heavily on the skin, rather it is a vegetable based oil high in protein, used in massage therapy. Regarding the attraction of bees: The first report of a bee problem came on top of the clearing of a couple of lots here at West Bay, where I was doing my research, So there were a lot of bees flying all around West Bay. Even during physical testing of the EOs, I did not find that they attracted bees. However, I did find in research of written material an association of one of the components with bee attraction. Consequently, this EO was removed from the mixture and all the bottles containing it replaced with the new formula. I will continue to work on improving my product as new information comes available. And I will disseminate that information for the most effective and safe prevention of sand fly and mosquito bites. Delight in the Earth.
