I'm diving in the bay islands for several days and am
planning on checking out the national park in la
ceiba. pico bonita 5/17-28
I've seen the mayan ruins of chitza nitza in cancun so
may or may not see copan. Its a long ride the other
direction.
Busses look to be the best option, but I've heard
there is a diesal shortage causing reduced bus
service. Rental cars are cheap enough, but expect to
only drive during the day and when you're mentally
prepared for everything. Have you ever driven in a
developing country?? PAY ATTENTION; ITS LIKE DRIVING
A LE MANS RACE; NO CELL PHONE; DON'T PLAY WITH THE
RADIO; DRIVE JUST DRIVE; USE THE SHOULDER IF YOU HAVE
TO ;)
Be patient and keep your eyes open. Nothing runs on
time so plan extra time. Meet up with other
backpackers and tag along. The europeans go down
there for 4-5 weeks on end.
