Hi Tom,
You pool guy - thanks for sharing and the humor. Yes, I looked that way too. And mine then became blisters. I was pock marked for not less than a month! Spend a lot of time sleeping from all the Benadryl. So I was one motivated individual to find an alternative!
I have had many people from the US and Canada ask about ordering it on line or buying it in the states. I have not reached the stage in the business where I am ready to pursue EPA approval, customs brokerage to mail to the states, nor production in the states.
By the time you return, I expect to have it on the shelves of Eldons and Warrens. Otherwise, check out REMAX - the profits from what they sell goes to a very worth while charity on the island. Or let me know closer to the time of your return.

During my fist visits to Roatan, I was eaten alive by Sand Flies - my body reacted strongly to them and I ended up long lasting bumps that turned into sores and I did get a slight fevor from them. I tried all the products you have mentioned here. The only thing that worked for me was the products with a high percentage of DEET. It was awful puting it on due to its removing nail polish, giving me an awful headache, if I accidently got it on my lips. I found later in my research on bug repellants that one's body absords 56% of the DEET. Consequently, I went looking for alternatives, because I really wanted to live here and I questioned my ability to last until I developed an ammunity to them. Besides there still are the mosquitoes and there is no developed ammunity to them.
Consequently, I developed a product that is equally as effective (from personal evaluation) as the high concentration DEET product, but is actually good for your skin and aromatherapy. My Roatan made products uses Essential Oils as the active ingrediants. I have received a great deal of positive feedback on it's effectiveness and nice scent. One of our highly respected Dive Instructors (Liz, now gone to the Maldives) was one of my bigest promoters and users. Let me know if I can tell you more. Since making my botanical based bug repellents, I have seen a great deal more positive result research.
I think that the Skin so Soft and Cactus Juice just work because they create a short lived physical barrier and you could get the same for Baby Oil and experience the same physical sensation on your skin.

As far as the sand mites or sand flies, there are some. They are quite bothersome to some and not to others. (I found them to be more annoying when we were in Ambergris Caye.) If they bother you, you will want to bring (and use regularly) a good insect repellant, Avon's Skin-So-Soft or Cactus Juice (a natural repellant and alternative to a DEET product). I have been to Roatan several different months; most recently in Feb. I was surprised to be able to sit on the beach and not be affected by a single sandfly. Where as in the hotter months, such as May or June, my husband found them to be more plentiful. In my opinion, the President's Day timeframe would be a very nice time to visit.
