I ride a bicycle and motorcycle on the mainland (la Ceiba) a lot. You have to be willing to give up your right-of-way to any car anytime. And they will be cursing you for being in their way. I find though that once I'm out of the congested traffic areas it's much more safe and you can see much more of the scenery. If your riding in a taxi you basically go to your destination, no wandering. Also, take the side streets as much as possible, not the main road with all the cars, more to see anyway. And wear your helmet. Also be careful when the taxis come from a side street because they always pull halfway out into the cross street before they stop, if they stop, and will pull out in front of you like you don't exist. Sometimes when they do something really stupid I "accidently" crash into them and try to dent them hard. Have fun. Tomás
