Hi Amy,
Roatan could be just what your group is looking for. There is a good variety of hotels, some great restaurants and nightlife, very good diving and a variety of day activities possible for non divers- hiking, island tours, boat trips, horse back riding, shopping, canopy tours and so on.
Concerning the sand mites they can be a problem for some people, for others it is not. It is just best to bring some good insect repellent and to be prepared to use it when sitting on the beach.
For more information on Roatan check out:
Hope this info helps.
Best Regards Dean Milverton

We are about 30 people with some couples and some singles. We have traveled to Ambergris Caye in Belize, to Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica and to Grenada. As a group, we like to hit locations that aren't the main tourist hot spots, but that do offer amenities such as: > > * Hotels that can accomodate a group of 30 > * A decent selection of restaurants > * Nightlife (we can create our own, but also like to find a bars / clubs) > * Diving (about 10 of the group are SCUBA certified) > * Some kind of day activity (examples of past activities include: hiking, snorkling, routing Mayan ruins, horseback riding through the rainforest, and canopy tours of the rainforest in Costa Rica). > > Everything I have read so far indicates that Roatan might be a good next destination for us. Based on your experiences, is Roatan for us? Also, I have heard that there are bad sand mites on the beaches in Roatan.
