Thanks Ted for this suggestion. I've taken a look at Spirit Air's website at http://www.spiritair.com and checked for fares to Honduras. They are indeed very low, if you opt for the nonrefundable option, which is fine.
I noticed there is an awful lot of fine print at the bottom the page, which I suspect could up the price a bit. For me flying out of Washington, DC, it probably won't work, as the only flight to San Pedro Sula leaves DC Reagan around 5 in the afternoon and arrives in SPS at around 11 pm. My preference is always to arrive in SPS as early in the day as possible so that I can get to my final destination (usually Copan Ruinas) before it gets dark.
Still, Spirit could indeed work for some people.
