Good afternoon all...
About three years ago, I was waiting at San Pedro Sula airport for my return flight to the US when I noticed a huge mission team. I think each of the individuals was wearing a yellow t-shirt. As I often do when I spot such large groups, I try to get close enough to read their shirts to find out where they're from. This particular group was from Christ the King Catholic Church ( http://www.ctkhondurasmission.com ) in Little Rock, Arkansas.
I approached one of the team members and asked them what they were doing in Honduras. The person said that they were on their annual medical/surgical mission trip to Trujillo.
I asked the person how many people were in the team, and I was told, "about 90".
That, ladies & gentlemen, is the largest mission team to Honduras that I've ever encountered!
There is an annual medical/surgical team from Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington, VA) that numbers nearly 80 people. I believe the team usually goes to Comayagua. But Christ the King handily beats that one.
In June 16-24, 2007, Christ the King sent a 97-member medical team to Trujillo. The group included a full surgical team with four surgeons, three anesthesiologists and nurses that performed surgery at the Trujillo hospital. This was the Christ the King's 10th annual mission to the area.
I want to thank Christ the King for their incredible work in Honduras, and particularly for their consistency and long-term commitment.
Sandee Haslauer of Christ the King will be giving a presentation at the Conference on Honduras 2007 ( http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference ) in Copan Ruinas. The description of her presentation is: "A system for pre-registration of families for medical clinics; patient flow through the clinics; follow-up for identified chronic patients (diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy) etc. Developed through trial and error during 10 years of mission work in the Trujillo area."
As always, I also want to thank all of the groups who send mission teams to Honduras. Links to the websites of many of these organizations can be found throughout the projecthonduras.com website, particularly at:
