Good evening everyone... With the recent registrations of Paulina Bendaņa of Arlington, VA and Patricia Havener and David Vignali of Springfield, MA, we now have 31 people confirmed to attend the 8th annual Conference on Honduras in Copan Ruinas during October 11-13, 2007.
For info on how to register for the conference, please see http://specialmissions.org/conferencia.htm
Three side notes:
First, my friends at Hacienda San Lucas (http://www.haciendasanlucas.com )just outside of Copan Ruinas have informed me that Hacienda San Lucas will be highlighted in a program about Honduras on the Travel Channel tomorrow evening (Wednesday, June 20). The program is called "Passport to Latin America with Samantha Brown". See http://travel.discovery.com/tv/samantha-brown/latin-america/latin-america.html
Congrats to my good good friend Flavia and the entire Cueva family!
Second, I just ran across a beautiful video of Honduras on YouTube. I've included a link to it at http://copanruinas.blogspot.com ... Click on the image of the white church and palm tree on the right hand column. The soundtrack is inspiring. I think it's a song by Moby.
Third, projecthonduras.com is working with Coaching the Global Village ( http://www.coachingtheglobalvillage.org ) to come up with a segment within the Conference on Honduras program. The segment would focus on some sort of roundtable or short workshop to spark an exchange on how Coaching techniques might be utilized to empower individuals/groups working on projects to help the Honduran people. Within the next few weeks, I will be forwarding to you more specific info about what we have in mind... so you can perhaps give us some feedback (including your interest in participating).
As part of this Coaching segment, we are also looking at the possibility of including a presentation addressing the issue of "burn out" within the volunteer community. I'm pretty committed to doing projecthonduras.com and the Conference on Honduras the rest of my life. But I must admit that I have started to feel a little burned out at times in the last few years. I always seem to find the energy and enthusiasm (eventually) and get back on track. But I'm originally from Honduras, and thus I do feel a special connection. that gives me an edge. For some of you, getting re-energized for Honduras (for the long-term) may be a little more difficult.
Let me know if you'd be interest in a presentation that provides some helpful, professional insights on how to deal with burn out. I think this would tie in nicely within the Coaching segment.
Thanks. Marco
