Honduras Travel and Visitors InfoI own & operate two businesses on Roatan. I do not have corporations. I came in as an investor resident & my companies are owned as sole proprietorships. My big "Vanna White" vehicle was brought in as a company vehicle & I paid $700.00 for something or another. My businesses are tourist related, but I must pay customs and sales tax on everything I bring in; 35% import duty on jewelry & 15 - 20% for other items I sell. The additional killer to the bottom line is the 12% sales tax tacked on, on top of that, including shipping. My understanding, to qualify for Duty Free status, 1) You must be a resident & 2) You must operate a tourism related business. If you don't fall into this category you will still have to pay duty....how much is the question. Our governor says these rules have not even been written yet. I'm not holding my breath anything will happen any time soon. Even though I fulfill the requirements for "duty free" status, I was informed I will always have to pay a "fee." I suggest no one put their life on hold, awaiting this magical event.

Talked to my agent and gave him the price, year and model, you would have to pay $7,200 in import taxes, plus his fee just over 100, The difference between one agt and the other in not a gringo price, but, how profesional the agent is, He is suppose to represent you and know the law to defend you at the Custom House, and some of them just hand the papers to the Gov, office and don´t fight for you or don´t do their homework. Please contact him at this two emails, he won´t anwer right away, but, he is very profesional and have offices in diferent cities in Honduras. edgardopacha.....com recomar.....hn Dan Marciano escribió: Cesar: I have th e VIN # if you will need it, as we have the title. Also For Your Information, the amount we paid for the vehicle incl;uded local sales tax, title fee, Texas registration, delivery, and a number of smaller fees included. I am waiting for a breakdown from the dealer, as I hate to pay duty on all of the sales taxes we paid here as well as all of the other fees.I only the amount on the check for the total, "out the door "as the dealer says, cost. Also we just heard that the vehicle Must go to TGU to be cleared.a Again I ask, if we wait until 2008, will the duty rate go down any? We can for sure rent a car for the amount of time we expect to be there the rest of this year, we expect to be there for about a week or 2 in August to move our furniture in, and then again in November for other reasons. Thanks for your help Dan Marciano

If you start a tourism related business here in Roatan (even a small one) you can ship your car straight to Roatan for free, no duty. Just make sure the car is in the name of your company and will be used for business purposes.
This may also be applicable to Honduras in general.
Just letting you know there are other options.

Best Regards

Autos & Free Zone Posted by: "Liz" mizliz_1.....com mizliz_1 Tue Jun 12, 2007 6:19 pm (PST) I heard that if one brings in a vehicle under a Tourist Corporation Business (once the Free Zone goes into effect) that when you sell it in the future - you MUST then sell it to someone else that is in the Tourist Business or you then pay the usual Customs and Sales Tax fees.
Not sure if that means the fees that would have applied when it first arrived. or the Customs etc fees of a older vehicle??
