As crazy as it sounds, I think that it has to do with the fact that they use old Blue Books and completely disregard the year of the Blue Book. I saw it personally bringing two cars in. I pointed out that it was an old book and that obviously a 2000 vehicle (bought in 1999) wasn't worth as much in Oct. 2001. He just shrugged and said "That's what we use."
So in your case, if they were using a 2005 Blue Book and calculated 30% of the new price, would that have come out to around $10,000? Or maybe we are just getting the gringo price.
