You can get a taxi driver to take you into the Cacao lagoon and peer at it. But, to my knowledge they don't have on the spot kayaks to rent. Therefore, I would check with one of the tour companies. Also, they had some reality shows filming in there, but perhaps that is over. Your tour company will have specific details. Cacao is attractive, but if you haven't done Cuero y Salado just outside of La Ceiba the other way, don't overlook this which is one of the best and pristine lagoons in the Western Hemisphere. The bird life and manatees have to be seen very early or late in the day, but the hundreds and hundreds of monkeys of various species are non stop. It's interesting that there are some monkey groups that virtually interact and are friendly towards passing kayakers and other monkey species in different areas of the lagoon that literally throw branches at you. I, also, marvel at how those huge stands of Cuban Royal Palms were introduced into the lagoon sides. Just wondering if I can go on Cacao Lagoon without an organized tour? Can I rent a canoe, kayak, guided boat ride, etc. when I get there? Or is this something I need to do ahead of time with a tour company? Thank you, Bluebell
