I spent 10+ days at the Hotel Italia last fall. It's a good value for the price, and the pool is nice. Be forewarned, however, that the third floor houses the cheapest rooms, and they are ugly and gross. Also, the staff like to congregate on the third floor and eat their lunches in the lounge space, so if you like to take afternoon naps, forget about it - you won't be able to sleep through the racket. Get a first or second-floor room.
Oh, and the restaurant is aweful. (But that's not really a big deal considering that you're centrally locate and can walk to better eats, like Ricardo's.)

P.S. Last fall the Villa Rhina was still operating, but it sounds like it went way downhill and might have been on the verge of closing. It was a nice place once, but it's not central, so if you go there you'll need transportation to get into town.
