>>>Should I be prepared to be haggled for money and will I have to keep a close eye on all my belongings? I was hoping for a relaxing, dive vacation. Now I am somewhat worried. Please help.>>>
Hi Allie,
In our week on Roatan, there was no haggling over prices or any money issues, compared to the Bahamas for example. You can negotiate in some of the shops if that is your style.
We used Amer Express Travelers checks and cash, changing our Amer Exp in the bank, standing in line for 20 minutes to do so. We do not use ATMs in any of our Central American travels. If it gives you a shortage, are you able to go into the bank and discuss that in Spanish? Why risk it?
You will not have any more threat to your belongings than if you were staying in a hotel in Chicago. Just realize that no place on this green earth escapes its share of those that would like to relieve us of our possessions, at no charge.
You will have a relaxing vacation. You have picked a fine location. Kick back and look forward to your time.
