I suspect you will get a ton of answers and opinions. Go to ProjectHonduras.com and you will find a ton of places to go to find what you are looking for in terms of helping the poor children of Honduras. If you go to La Ceiba you should hook up with David Ashby at HelpingHondurasKids.org.
Lake Yojoa is awesome by the way.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this group. The reason I became member is my 4 weeks trip to Honduras in 2008. By following this group I want to pick up some interesting, first hand info.
I also have some questions for the Honduras insiders: 1) I want to take some stuff (schoolstuff, toys, clothes) with me to help the poor children in Honduras. I'll arrive from Belgium in San Pedro Sula and I want to visit an aid project with children in the direct neighborhood of this city. Is there anybody who knows about a small-scale aid project which I can visit?
2) Does anyone has some good contacts with local guides which I can go with on a tour? I like more to pay directly to a local guide than taking a tour with a commercial organisation. I want to do hikes around Tela (Punta Sal), Trujillo, Gracias (Celaque), Lago de Yojoa , La Muralla NP., ...
3) Are there areas, cities, busroutes,... which I (a 41 year old male) better avoid ?
Greets to all, Spoelle Belgium
