I'm going to second what Angel said. You may want the check the bus schedule for the Hedman Alas bus line at http://www.hedmanalas.com/index.htm. They are very comfortable, inexpensive and the drivers know the roads as well as the rules of the road. If the schedule works you avoid a night in San Pedro Sula (a good thing). You can rent a car in La Ceiba the morning after your arrival if you want and not be gouged for a drop off charge. There is also a late afternoon and an evening flights available to La Ceiba on with Islena Airlines.
If you have to stay in San Pedro Sula the Gran Hotel Sula (on the web at http://www.granhotelsula-sanpedrosula.com/) is downtown which would be back-tracking away from La Ceiba. Closer to the airport is the MicroTel Inn & Suites (on the web at http://hotelhonduras.com/).
For MicroTel reservations are recommended as it is very popular. I have never had a problem getting a room at the Sula as a walkin but a reservation would not be a bad idea.
We have shared several guests with the BananaRama on Roatan and always had good reports.
