I had no problem with mine. I was in the luggage with everything else and just got passed thru x-ray and out the door i was with all my stuff to meet my family.

Well a weed wacker is pretty big and it does have a fuel tank. I would hope your car parts were not so big. In any case I think it's best you call your airline. I brought a brand new electrica circular saw in my checked luggage and had no problem.
