GlobalNet announces Microwave link by May

Thank you for all those who sent me the update email from GlobalNet.
It is very exciting news of course as always on Roatan. I will believe
it when I see it but…

For those who do not receive GlobalNet Updates.

They have announced a Microwave link to the mainland from Roatan. As I
have mentioned many times the problem with internet on the island is
not your connection to your provider it's the lack of bandwidth from
the island to the fiber links on the mainland. With a direct microwave
connection globalnet should be able to add as much bandwidth as they
desire and hopefully they would add enough to make their system work
consistently and with a degree of quality not seen on the island from
    them before.

This is exactly what we need. Then there will be two private links to
the island. GlobalNet and Navega. This means competition! A dream come
true as far as I am concerned. The island can only benefit from two
    carriers competing.

I find it amusing though they claim to be the only Honduran carrier
with a full fiber link from La Ceiba to San Pedro. I am sure Navega
claims the same. Someone somewhere is spinning the facts. Not sure who
I hope they both have one!

Here is an excerpt form their email.

    ---
Licensed Private Frequency Microwave Link to the Mainland

After more than a year of applying for a licensed private frequency to
operate between Roatan and the mainland, CONATEL (governing
telecommunication entity in Honduras) has granted us permission for a
new microwave link to the mainland, this high speed link will connect
with our fiber optic node in La Ceiba directly to our main node in San
Pedro. We are the only Honduran Carrier with a full fiber optic run
from San Pedro to La Ceiba which allows our users to connect directly
to our fiber optic backbone with Sprint Link at the Nap of The
Americas, guaranteeing the lowest latency and maximum transmission
speed. The first stage of the link will be completed in February,
tripling the existing capacity to Roatan. The full licensed private
frequency link will be completed in May.
