Hi Carla,
If Microtel is full try Aparthotel - just can a taxi downtown - very clean, safe, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel near the Mall. They also have a well guarded parking compound. I Just ran across an ad for Advance Rent a Car - 24-hour service, from $26.60 per day. (They say to present the ad for your gift, but I bet they have a similar competitive rate). San Pedro 552-2295 airport 668-0284 and website: www.advancerentacar.com and email at: infor.....com In La Ceiba phones 441-2929 or Airport 441-3398..
Please drive with extra caution. Hondurans seem to make there own rules when it comes to driving especially in the big cities. One big difference is cars inside a traffic circle yield to incoming traffic. Left turn signals lights follow the general green signal. Many Hondurans pass on hills, curves and often in NO PASSING zones. So just be alert and expect unorthodox driving behaviors. Be prepared to move onto the shoulder or off the road for car passing head-on in your lane Be sure to slow down for police check points and stop to present your papers if asked to do so. Watch for hand-signals from the police at check points. They will often wave you on through. Past Progresso the drive is quite beautiful to Ceiba and beyond. Good luck and enjoy your travels.
