My wife likes to bring her own shampoo and conditioner (in quantity). She can find it in Honduras only its three time cheaper in the states. A couple of sets of Master locks keyed identically are handy. All American brand name foods in stores cost more and the brands you have never heard of before are just as good in most cases.
Cost of living is definitely cheaper than the States. I can't speak for Teugs specifically though as my experience is primarily in La Ceiba.
Minimum wage is somewhere around $125 US per month I believe if that helps as any gauge.
Overland bus travel is cheap. The Hedman Alas bus line (on the web at http://www.hedmanalas.com/index.htm) is safe and reliable. You can check local flight prices at the Isleņa Airlines web site at http://www.flyislena.com/
Bring lots of patience and understanding (being a teacher I'm sure you are set already) and a sense of humor. Its a different life style and things do not work as they do in the United States.
