Hi Leisha,
I'm Angel. I'm Honduran...so i'll try to answer some questions but most need a American point of view.
Cost of living? Depends on what you need to live. Food and non-specific clothing are less expensive than most of USA. Hand labor is definitely cheaper (maid, housekeeper, mechanic).
Rent for a decent apartment? Depends on what location you need it to be.
What should you bring with you? From the top of my mind..any prescription and non-prescription medication that you MUST take, bring it. We probably have something else or different here. Maybe the other Americans living in Honduras in the group can answer this better.
How easy/Expensive it is to travel to SPS and La Ceiba? From Tegus there are several ways to trave to SPS. By bus there is regular, non-stop and "first-class" (not really first class but it is a little better than non-stop). Top fare would cost about $15. Non-stop and regular bus service departs about every hour from Tegus to SPS since 4am up to 6pm (i think). "first-class" departs at 6am,8am,10am and 2pm,4pm,and 6pm. Non-stop ride takes about 3 to 3 1/2 hours from Tegus to SPS and 3 1/2 to 4 hours from SPS to Tegus (Tegus is higher). Ceiba bus service has same levels of service, fare is a bit higher because distance is almost double. Travel time is about 6 hours.
There are also flights between Tegus , SPS and Ceiba. DOn't know fares for them but they are obviously much higher than buses.
For business trips i've chosen bus for SPS and plane for Ceiba (too far!!).
Hope to help more when you give us more details. and maybe other will give their experience too.
Angel

I'm a teacher planning to move to Tegus next month. I'm coming with a program, but don;t know anyone in Honduras. I'd be interested to make a few contacts before coming in, and would appreciate any tips you could offer. Unas preguntas:
- What's the cost of living per month like? - What about the rent for a decent apartment? - What should I bring with me? Is there anything that's difficult to get in Tegus? (I mean necessities). - How easy/expensive is it to travel to cities like La Ceiba and San Pedro Sula?
Thanks so much. Hasta pronto, leisha
