Hi Norm:
we are in California. I can relate to having a psychological fear about such a trip. my fear was actually about going through Texas (and I apologize to all those Texans out there, I know there are great people in that state, a lot of you are of German descend I learned) with my multicultural family...
My idea was then to go down Baya all the way and to take the ferry, which unfortunately looks excessively expensive for three people travelling with a car. From what I can gather it comes out to more than $3000. Is that correct?
Hi Kevin: Another thing I dreaded were the border crossings. what does it cost to cross the border into Mexico? Can you prepare the paperwork before you leave home? And then what do you need, from your experience, to cross into Guatemala aside from time, patience and flexibility?
I have crossed the border from Guatemala into Honduras at El Florido in a private car, which belonged to the parents of a Guatemalan friend. At first the Guatemaltecos didn't want to let us go through because the car was registered in her father's name and not her's. Finally they let us go because they realized that it would be a real hazzle for us to go all the way back and also I am guessing because our friend is really cute. ; ) We didn't need any extra cutoms forms or vehicle permits or anything.
