The drive across Mexico took 4 to 5 days depending on what we wanted to see. We drove from Brownsville to Victoria to Tampico. We stayed in Tampico at a hotle/motel San Antonio. We drove to Vera Cruz because I wanted to see it. There is a shorter route skipping the city. One time we drove to Oxaca, again for turist reasons. We crossed into Guetemala at Tapichula. We spent a night there to go to the border in the morning. We once took the pacific route to Guatemala City and once took the Central Highlands through Chichicastenango. I am fluent in Spanish and my wife is Honduran. I think this made it easier. We were warned about bandits. We saw none of it but then we travelled only in the day and on busy roads. We entered Honduras through Esquipulas into Nuevo Ocotepeque close to Santa Rosa de Copan. We then drove to Danli which is another 8 to 10 hours. We stayed in hotels with inside garages as we had a car top carrier. It was much more fun after the trip was done then during it. I mean the trip was an adventure and during an adventure you may not be able to enjoy it as much as one would like because of stress etc. I am glad I did it but all three of my trips down and one back had happy endings even when I had a break down outside of Matamoras in the middle of nowhere and ended up being towed by a Federale. I would be happy to answer any questions but it has been a number of years since I drove.
