We have friends that have done the trip twice. Then they left in
December to go back from Roatan to Mexico, then to fly to the US from
there. They left in time to leave five days of travelling. Having
said that, they were travelling while she was pregnant and with a
young baby so I'm sure there was plenty of extra time calculated in.
They enjoy the road trip enough to keep doing it and have never had
any problems, although they are both fluent in Spanish and he is
originally from Mexico, so I'm sure that helps.
