Hi Darcy
I haven't checked this board in a while, so I just found your post. Did anyone ever answer you? I'd be happy answer your questions. I'm almost a resident on Roatan, I'm there so much. I'm headed back in February, too. I'm flying in on the 10th. When are you flying in?
Tell me what you are looking for with regard to lodging and I can give you some suggestions. I pay much less than $50 for mine, but I don't need much. Also, tell me what you like to do and I can suggest activities, etc. Are you a diver? Do you want a resort package or do you want to be on your own?
$$...I use my bank card at a ATM. Much easier than tc's for most things . Some businesses don't like to take tc's. If you have to actually go inside a bank for anything while you are there, you'll find out why. Take a picnic lunch and plan to stay the day... [8-|] lol. I draw out L 4000 at a time at a ATM and just pay a $1.50 fee per. Take a little cash, in small bills, with you to get started on.
You can pay for anything in dollars; your change will be in limperas...no need to do any kind of exchange on the way in and I always spend my limps down until I'm almost out before I leave. I always put my dollars away as soon as I start using limps so that I will have some for the trip home. Can't buy a beer on the plane with limps [;)]
You can also use a credit card in many places, but be prepared to pay a hefty surcharge. I carry one for a real emergency and hope I never have to use it.
I have a great friend on the island you can depend on to pick you up at the airport, or ferry or whatever. Actually, when I go, I just tell him when I'll be there and he finds my room, takes me wherever I need to go, just in general takes care of everything I need. Give him a call. 011-504-918-0766. His name is Enrique. His email is J8kike.....com . His business is island tours and he is a diver so he can tell you anything you want to know about the island.

What's the island like? Best places to eat...best beaches......the things we should not miss. Also, what is the best way to bring $$, are there many banks and ATM machines, or better to take travellers chq's and do the exchange that way. > Thanks so much!!! > Darcy > > > > > > Darcy Parker > > _____ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? has the best spam protection around > http://mail.yahoo.com > > >
