Get them unlocked in Honduras for $20 or even less. I only know that Cetrel does it, but i've seen signs on almost every corner about selling calling cards, chips and unlocking phones. I guess it's not that hard if you have the right hardware/software.

Just an FYI.....I talked to Verizon before my trip last month to Roatan. I
was going to buy a couple of phones to take down to some of my friends on the
island. Verizon told me that they only sell dual band, not quad band and
that NO Verizon phone will work in Central America. I was told that Motorola
would work, but they would not unlock it for me. They told me I had to go to
another shop and pay 50 USD to have it unlocked before I left the US.
