That's the Sat phone with 100% global coverage and it's the one I know the most. They can tell you there the phone cost, plans and dealers.
About the future of cellphone service, I know that both cellphone operators in Honduras have complete coverage in the large cities, and the second-large ones. CLARO then headed out to cover the smaller towns with cellphone and fixe-wireless phone service. TIGO followed suit and is now reaching every little town they can come across, I just read on the newspaper today they were doing a notary announcement for a tower installation somewhere in Lempira. That's pretty out there in the boonies! So in the not so distant future unless you are hiking some remote mountain or in the Mosquitia Jungle you'll probably have cellphone service from either operator.
One drawback to satphones is that you have to be outdoors to use them, or hook up an outside antenna , etc. Unlike cellphones which can be used indoors and outdoors. Also they are BIG, and require a few tries sometimes to get a call thru, plus they are affected by weather and once the call is connected it has a delay since it goes from the satphone to satellite to satellite to a ground station and then off to the destination phone.
If there is no other choice though (like out in the ocean , or in the jungle) it's a lot better than nothing.
