You are worrying about everything but it's good that you are asking because it's better to worry and ask than to let things slide and face hard realities at the arrival or destination airport. No wonder airports are the #1 place where heart attacks occur. I like travelling but I hate airports.
So don't worry Megan, or rather do worry but ask here so that you can have some peace of mind that you asked all that you wanted to.
immigrations officers look at all aspects of your passport, but they specially look and the EXPIRATION date of it, and that's what the sentences you read refer to.
The first sentence you read means that you passport must be valid for at least 3 MORE months from the date of entry. Your passport is apparently brand new so that will not be a problem.
The second sentence means that your passport must be valid for at least 3 MORE months from the date of exiting Honduras. Unless you plan to stay for very very very long time that wouldn't be a problem and if it was you could stay a bit more and get a new passport at the US Embassy here. You are just staying about 2 weeks so you are fine with your passport. It's good to do research before travelling and double checking stuff, specially when travelling abroad and for the first. Bring with you contact information in case of an emergency, like the US Embassy phone # here in Tegus, the number to call to cancel your credit cards, your airlines phone #, etc. It's better to have that stuff and not need it than the other way around.
Stay positive but keep doing the homework :-)

Ok either I am worrying about everything and anything or this is REALLY true and I cannot plan my trip to Tegus for January 2007!
I was just reading on two websites (the travel.state.gov website and the Honduras Embassy website) and this is the sentence that is worrying me:
"A U.S. Passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry"
and
"Though not required by law, some travelers have reported difficulty departing Honduras using a passport with less than 3 months of validity from the date of departure."
Okay, the first sentence. I JUST got my passport in the mail a few days ago. It was issued Nov. Does this mean that I won't be allowed in Honduras and I would have to come all the way back home? Do they look at the date of when it was issued? Or do they just look at if it is legit and a legal passport? I am SO worried because I failed to read this and I hope it hasn't cost me! I already bought my plane ticket for Jan 9 to Jan 24th!
Okay, now the second sentence kind of proves that people HAVE gone through Immigration with passports that have been less than three months, so maybe I am worrying for nothing?! That would be nice! But then that sentence kind of worries me too, because what if I get through fine but they look at my passport on departure back to the states and see it is less than 3 months and like the sentence says, I could have trouble coming back here?
Gosh, I REALLY have to stop worrying! I am just feeling like everything is coming into place and it seems like everything is going smoothly so far, but I am just WAITING for the obstacles to start lol!
I guess I am just preparing myself in case I am not able to go.
Anyways, anyone have opinions? Am I worrying TOO much? I am trying to relax...I think what I have to do is STOP researching because it seems like I am coming up with negative things instead of positive!
Okay! Thanks for any replies!
Megan (The Worrier that needs to relax lol!)
