I'm glad that you think our city looks beautiful. About going over the gulf let me tell you that it's a non-event. My wife was so worried about flying to Houton and to Miami and now she says it's 2 to 3 hours of total boredom (which is the way it should be). All airline pilots strive to give you the most smooth ride you can so that you hardly remember the flight (except if the in-flight movie was really bad or really good.. LOL).
As for customs, I think the stuff you say you are bringing over is not even $50 worth. I've brought more stuff with me from conferences (like tons of pens and new clothes). I do fill out the customs form for the new stuff im bringing in and it's never over $100 worth. lately they haven't even asked for the customs form and they just scan the bags thru the xray machine and let me go my way, and I end up tossing the customs forms once i'm home. This is of course in my case being a Honduran. I've noticed that now they don't check everyone's custom form , they just pick people at random, like they do in the US.
What I would do in your case is write down your gifts that you are bringing over , stating their value which i'm sure is low from your description, and also state that they are gifts. I've done that sometimes when i've brought over stuff that is 10 or 20 bucks' worth. Sounds like writing a lot for a few things if you don't get picked for a search, but if you do get picked, they'll see that most of the stuff is your personal belongings and they'll let you go on quickly.
It's a whole different thing when the customs officers see someone bringing in 4 or 5 heavy suitcases, they generally search those deeply. It's an obvious thing that not everything is his or her personal items.
Have a good time in Honduras.

Thank you for responding. You were very helpful. I've seen the videos of landing in Tegus, the sight of the city looks beautiful and I am hoping to get a window seat! (a little nervous if we go over the gulf, but I'm sure it will be fine!)
As for that customs sheet, what if I am bringing a scrapbook, coffee mug and some keychains to give to my fiance? Will I put that down on the sheet?
I hope I enjoy my stay too! Thanks!
Megan
