Subject: [travel-to-honduras] a frustrating reminder of the old"let the buyer beware"!

I have been buying properties in HN , and on Roatan for many years. I
have two Hn corporations. Never had a problem ...good Abagados =
    good papers!
I let my guard down, and I was taken! Just want to extend a
reminder/warning to the "old"/ new members of the group.
Several years ago, I purchased a piece of property from a
Honduran "attorney"(Licenciado Miguel Angel Castillo) of Le Cieba
(not to be confused with his deceased father who was a fine Abagado
from what I have heard). He represented it to be a piece of his
family's property. This attorney also stated that he would "do the
closing himself". This certainly, sent up some warning flags for me.
But when I was informed that my questioning of this had impugned his
character and integrity...I, like a foolish neophyte, gave in to his
demand! He provided what appeared to be good papers that were in fact
    registered with the Municipal!
Soon after, we began to hear rumors that half of this property was
owned by another gringa. This took some time to finally track down,
but we finally found that a gringa had bought and registered it some
    12 years ago.
This all sounds so reminiscent of property purchases and the crooks
of a decade ago...This attorney and "good faith minister" had
obviously not rectified the property according to Hn law. He had
somehow fraudulently registered it with the Municipal and had
    knowingly sold it without ownership!
Sure, I'm suing him, might even have a "strong case", probably even a
criminal case...but the hassle, the financial issues , the legal
system it self, will not make it easy, nor expeditious. So again, be
forewarned. Just because you've done it before (many times), if you
are not diligent, then it still CAN and WILL happen to you. So
    Caveat Emptor!
