They found an inordinate amount of street dogs (and cats) and rather than bringing their pets from the USA, they gave those to friends and found new dogs in their new home. They have also organized an effort to spay and neuter street dogs to help contain the problem.

That's very commendable. There are millions of dogs that get euthanized every year in the U.S. also. I adopted my male Border Collie mix from a local pound as a pup. He had parvo and almost died. My female Dalmatian was living on the street when I found her. She was about 4 months old. I gave up a dog about 18 years ago due to housing restrictions. Found out later that she was chained to a tree with a 5' chain, infested with fleas and standing in her own waste. Just about killed me that a family member neglected her like that. Never again. They are a part of my family and I can't just hand them over to someone else. But certainly trying to alleviate animal suffering anywhere is a good thing. Can't one do both without giving up his pets?

    Regards,
    Wade
