Dear Listeros (this is going to three lists, so if you get it thrice, you know why . . . ),
I would like to make a heartfelt book recommendation to you all. I am reading the Honduras and Bay Islands Adventure Guide, by Maria Fiallos. Maria is my dear friend, and many of you will remember her from Honduras This Week, where she was a reporter and Editor for several years.
The book is part of Hunter Publishing's Adventure Guide series, and was published in June of this year. I just got my copy, and I love it. I read the Bay Islands section, and you are all very kindly mentioned.
I may be biased, but I've read a lot of guide books in my life, and this is a great one. It is aimed at the upscale independent traveler, with an emphasis on eco-tourism and adventure. Maria did a fabulous job, with great sections on history (of each region); maps showing streets in all the destinations, maps showing all the dive sites at each of the Bay Islands, and references and directions to every national park in Honduras.
It's about 500 pages including lots of color photos and maps. 115 pages on the Bay Islands, about 60 on the Northeast Corridor (Ceiba, Tela, Trujillo), 30 on the Northwest Corridor (SPS, Omoa, Puerto Cortes), almost 100 on Copan and the Western Highlands, and sections on Tegucigalpa & Southeast Honduras, La Moskitia & Olancho, Central Honduras, and the South Coast.
The book is available on Amazon.com for $12.99 (although the cover price is $19.99), and I think it qualifies for free shipping or Amazon Prime. Just search for Maria Fiallos, or Honduras Adventure Guide.
It would be a great gift for anyone planning on visiting Honduras, or for yourself, if you need a little help with your travels to San Pedro Sula or the Moskitia. The book is very upbeat and positive, with just the right practical information for finding the best of Honduras, and exploring all the natural treasures, history and great food.
Lots of phone numbers, email addresses and website listings, and incredibly up to date information (for now at least!).
There are just a few copies available in Honduras right now, but there should be more available soon. If anyone would like information about ordering, or if you would like to carry the book in your shop or resort, contact Maria directly or the Publisher Hunter Publishing.
Contact info, as well as a link to the Hunter Publishing order page, are available on Maria's website www.tropicalscribe.com.
Thanks, Melanie Wetzel
