Hi John,
With a group that size you may even find it cheaper to rent a mini- bus of your own for the San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba trip. This will also give you the flexability to maybe stop along the way and leave when you want - make your own schedule.

With the Ferry ride - it should be fine for kids though it can get a little rough at times, the trip is close to 2 hours.
